Frequently Asked Questions

  • Neurodivergent refers to people whose brains work differently from what’s considered typical — including autistic people, people with ADHD, and others. An estimated 1 in 5 people are neurodivergent. At Elmgrove, we believe neurodivergent ways of thinking, learning, and experiencing the world are a natural part of human diversity.

  • Affirming care starts from the belief that neurodivergent people are not broken and don’t need to be made to seem neurotypical. It’s grounded in research showing that strengths-based, nervous-system-informed approaches produce meaningfully better outcomes than compliance-based models. At Elmgrove, affirming means meeting people where they are, honoring their autonomy, and building systems around neurodivergent needs — not the other way around.

  • Elmgrove grew out of Trailhouse, Louisville’s neurodivergent-affirming therapy center. Where Trailhouse provides clinical care, Elmgrove is the broader community hub — expanding access to connection, programming, education, and advocacy beyond the therapy room. They share a campus, a community, and a commitment to affirming care, and operate as separate organizations.
